Dr. Li is a professor at the Department of Geography and Atmospheric Science, University of Kansas and one of his primary research areas is on surface water mapping and analysis. He has published more than 75 peer-reviewed research papers and has been supported with grants from the NSF, DoE, NOAA, Army Corps of Engineers and Kansas Water Office of the United States. With recent research focus on flood inundation mapping in the past 3 years, Prof. Li and his colleagues at the University of Kansas have developed the FLDPLN flood inundation model and implemented an operational real-time flood inundation mapping system for the State of Kansas. The low-complexity model and system have significant advantages over the HAND approach currently used in the national flood inundation mapping system in the United States. During the visit, Prof. Li will introduce the model to Dr. Yu’s group and to develop research collaborations.
